Coaches
Rob Turmell
Head CoachRob Turmell takes over as head coach for the 2026-27 season after three years as assistant coach. He's been with Canton United since the program's first season in 2023.
He raced in high school himself and spent the early part of his career working in ski shops — which means he can spot a bad edge or a badly fitted boot faster than most parents can find the receipt.
Skiing runs in the family. His oldest, Katie, skied for Canton United before graduating and now returns as an assistant coach. His youngest is a senior on this year’s team.
Assistant Coaches
- Brian Nemes
Assistant coach for the 2026-27 season.
- Katie Turmell
A recent Canton United graduate, back with the team as an assistant coach.
Our Athletes
Canton United is made up of boys and girls from all three Plymouth-Canton Educational Park high schools — Plymouth, Canton, and Salem — racing together as one team. We field both JV and varsity skiers, from first-year racers to state qualifiers.
Recruiting runs through the fall, and the team is set in mid-November when dryland training begins.

Eric Shingles
Eric Shingles founded this program in 2023 and coached it through its first three seasons — including Canton United's first State Finals qualifier in 2024 and a girls team that finished 7th in Michigan in 2025. Everything the team is today started with him. Thank you, Coach.
